Huge Rent Increases in Ohio

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/articles/2022-07-19/states-with-the-highest-rents-in-2022

Rent across the country has increased, which leaves less for the other necessities: Utilities, phones, food, gas, medical bills, car payments, credit card bills, etc.

According to US News , the average monthly rent in Ohio for a 1-bedroom apartment has increased about 23% since from the beginning of the pandemic. As a bankruptcy attorney who creates & evaluates peoples’ budgets on a daily basis, I know that a 23% increase on such a high monthly expense IS A HUGE ISSUE!

What does a 23% increase look like?

If your rent was $1,000/mo in 2020, then your rent would now be $1,230/mo (23% of $1000 = $230). That’s $230 less per month for the other necessities.

This increase would be OK if our incomes were increasing proportionally, but unfortunately, that is not always the case. This means that our monthly expenses are substantially increasing, but our income is not keeping up.

This will likely lead to Ohioans falling behind on their other monthly expenses and needing assistance. Luckily, the bankruptcy laws are here to help. Bankruptcy is specifically designed to help you out of these tough times, and get you a fresh start.
