Bankruptcy: Update From a 2019 Client
Many people are still afraid to pursue the benefits of bankruptcy. Why? I think it’s the human nature of “fearing the unknown.” But bankruptcy is another example where “knowledge is power.” What I mean is that over and over I talk with prospective clients who have tried EVERYTHING to not file bankruptcy because they heard [inaccurate] stories about it. But when they ASK the questions, and UNDERSTAND the options, they are amazed by the power and benefits that accompany bankruptcy.
Enter a client of mine from 2019. He and I became pretty good friends throughout the process, and he called me the other day for a couple reasons: 1) To update me on his “new life” post-bankruptcy, (2) to tell me he is thriving and has great credit, and (3) to ask for advice on buying a duplex. BUYING. A. DUPLEX! He and I talked for 15 minutes about how his 2019 chapter 7 bankruptcy saved his financial life, and enabled him to rise to where he is today: Buying a duplex that will provide him some passive income on top of his regular job. He’s buying an investment property!
This serendipitous phone call came LESS THAN 2 YEARS after we filed his chapter 7 bankruptcy. At that time in 2019, his only asset to speak of was a 20+ year old vehicle. He was burdened by $35,000+ in debt, and a suspended driver license.
The chapter 7 bankruptcy eliminated his debts, un-blocked his driver license, and opened the door to his future. 2 years later, he is now purchasing an investment property!
To bring it full-circle: This client also COULD NOT UNDERSTAND why more people do not file for the benefits of bankruptcy. He has seen first-hand how beneficial and life-changing it can be. He said he implores his friends to at least ask how a bankruptcy can benefit them.
